Applied Mathematics at the University of Nevada Reno

Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics

Our proposal for a new Doctorate Degree in Mathematics at the University of Nevada Reno is currently under review. Although no definite dates have been set to implement our proposal reviews have been positive and we are optimistic that we will soon be able to admit students for advanced study leading to a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Our program is designed to be flexible, accommodating students writing dissertations in different areas. At the same time, the program is to take the most advantage of the current resources and strengths of the faculty. After taking common core classes, students will be able to focus on research problems in pure and applied mathematics as well as probability/statistics. Below, we give a sample course of study in applied mathematics demonstrating the flexibility in the program.
